On Sunday, October 15, 2006, The Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company sponsored the first ever Family Appreciation Day. Over 160 members and their families attended. Upon arrival, the families were greeted by long tables covered in brown paper and we all know in Maryland what that means. That's right, STEAMED CRABS and SHRIMP!!! There was plenty on the menu for the non seafood lover too including fried chicken, cold cuts, an assortment of rolls, potato and macaroni salad and of course chips and pretzels. While everyone picked to their little hearts desire, they were given a tour of the new Hampstead website and the Ravens game on a big screen. For the young ones who were not into hanging with the grown ups, an impromptu game of football was organized by a few members of the juniors. After 4 hours of fun and food, many of the members and leadership spent very little time cleaning up from the feast. It was a well-organized and appreciated event by the members and their families who put their lives on the line daily for the Hampstead community.
