At approximately 5:15 PM on Veterans Day (11-11-11), stations 2, 4, 7, and Baltimore County 43 were alerted for a barn fire with multiple exposures. Because people driving down Main Street were pointing and yelling about a fire as members were gearing up, crews were prepared for a working incident. Seconds after pulling out of the fire station, crews could see a large plume of black smoke. Medic 29 arrived and advised they had a fully involved two-story barn. Engine 23 and Engine 43 (Manchester) arrived next, each taking one side of the barn. Crews from both engines immediately pulled lines and started extinguishing the blaze. Additionally they also extinguished small fires on the exposures which included a small shed and a large garage. Chief 2 was quick to call the second alarm. Within a short time a water source was established and Truck 2 used the "ladder pipe" to pour water onto the structure. CSX Railroad tracks and Rt 30 were both shut down due to the Large Diameter Hose crossing them for the water supply. Crews searched for hotspots and waited for the Fire Marshalls to finish their investigation. Units cleared approximately 3 hours later.
