The Hampstead Juniors program consists of children ages 10-15 (who are enrolled in the 5th grade) who have expressed interest in emergency services.
The Juniors hold regular meetings at the fire house on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7 PM to 9 PM. Typical meetings on the 1st Wednesday of the month consists of a "business session" followed by training instruction or a training video. The 3rd Wednesday of the month is usually "practical night". This meeting consists of a "business session" followed by such activities as practicing basic first aid skills or learning the various skills of fire department operations. Occasionally the meeting schedule deviates from the 1st and 3rd Wednesday routine because of advisor availability or facility availability for special training exercises. Also, some nights during the summer, the meetings may last later than 9 PM.
Once a year the juniors take part in the annual Carroll County Juniors Day held at the Carroll County Emergency Services Training Center. Juniors Day is a competition between all the junior fire companies of Carroll County. During these activities the juniors can showcase the skills they have learned and practiced all year long and enjoy a great day of friendship and camaraderie with the other Juniors of Carroll County.
The Juniors run several stands during the Fire Company's annual carnival in August to raise funds for their activities.
The Juniors also host activities and fund raisers including, breakfasts with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, and operating several stands during our annual carnival. We also assist Santa with his neighborhood visits during the Christmas season.
The Juniors participate in parades throughout Carroll county as well as through the state of Maryland and Pennsylvania. A Junior Honor Guard was formed to more formally represent the Fire Company. The award-winning Honor Guard participates in parades, ceremonies, conventions, and funerals. Currently we are recruiting for the Honor Guard.
