Early in the evening, Hampstead VFC and surrounding companies were alerted for box alarm 2-8 for the building fire with rescue. Smoke could be seen from the station and passersby alerted station personnel of a potential rescue at the fire down the street. Chief 2-1 called working fire from the station and then Engine 23 and Truck 2 responded to the scene where a rescue was already initiated by Hampstead PD and good Samaritans. Engine 23’s crew quickly stretched and advanced an attack line to the second floor and began to make a good knock on the fire. Crews remained on scene for several more hours for overhaul and assist with the State Fire Marshall’s investigation.
