Around 14:45 hours, as Hampstead Day was unwinding, Station 2 was alerted for a pedestrian struck by a train in the area of North Carroll St and Hampstead-Mexico Rd. Paramedic 29, Engine 23, and Truck 2 called en route and was advised by dispatch the subject was struck on the railroad tracks underneath the bridge of Hampstead-Mexico Rd prior to North Carroll St. It was further deemed that the best access to patient was the parking lot of Ridge Engineering. Units located the male patient who was indeed struck by a CSX train, but was not trapped underneath. The patient suffered from multiple traumatic injuries and a Maryland State Police helicopter was requested. Crews worked for several minutes to stabilize and package the patient. He was carried around the front of the train to the waiting medic unit. The medic unit met Trooper 3 at the Hampstead Municipal Park where he was flown to Shock Trauma, Priority 1. CSX and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident. Crew's did an excellent job and demonstrated great teamwork during this unique incident.
