Junior Day was Saturday, April 19, on the New Windsor Fire Company Grounds. Junior Day is an annual event at which the Junior Fire Companies from Carroll County meet for a day of instruction, hands-on activities and practical evolutions, and competitions. Normally Junior Day is held at the Carroll County Emergency Services Training Center, but due to construction, New Windsor graciously hosted the event.

As part of the learning and practical evolutions, the Juniors viewed a live demonstration for extricating a patient from a car, participated in packaging a Trauma patient, learned how to overland rappel, threw ground ladders and practiced safe procedures for working on ladders, and climbed the aerial ladder.

The competitions between fire companies were Donning of the Gear, Hose Hook-Up and Advancement, and Bucket Brigade. For fun, the final event was the Battle of the Bucket during which all Juniors were drenched.

The Hampstead Fire Company and Junior Fire Company thank all those who worked so hard in organizing, coordinating, and producing a great Junior Day. The Juniors are the future of the fire service in Carroll County and it is good to see so many kids with the interest and desire to help others.
