On July 24, around 18:25 Local Alarm 4-18 was dispatched for a barn fire on Band Hall Hill Road near the MD/PA line. Shortly after, Chief 52 from York County arrived on scene advising Heavy Smoke and a working barn fire with extension, and requested the 2nd alarm and the tanker task force. Engine Tanker 24 quickly responded with 5 members and later arrived on scene. Multiple water sources were established along with a water shuttle and folding tank operations. Water was shuttled from the near by ponds to the scene due to the lack of available water nearby. Later into the night, command requested a 3rd alarm for additional manpower and water supply. Companies from Carroll, Adams, York, and Baltimore counties battled the blaze as it continued to burn through out the evening. At about 22:00, the fire was placed under control, but numerous small fires still existed. Shortly after, four more Large Capacity Tankers were requested as the fire continued to burn. As the night went on, the fire was brought to an end and command began to release companies from the scene. Around 23:30 the fire was out and command released the remaining equipment. Crews remained on scene for a total of over 6 hours battling the blaze. The cause of this fire is believed to be from a tractor-trailer truck striking power lines, which ignited bales of hay on fire leading to the building fire.
