PIN JOB on FALLS ROAD

By Chief Richard Yingling, Jr
December 10, 2009

On Wednesday evening at 18:15 hour's units from the Hampstead station were dispatched to assist Baltimore County with a vehicle collision with a subject trapped on Falls road north of Grave Run. Paramedic 29 responded first followed by Truck 2 with 6 volunteers and Engine/Tanker 24 with 5 volunteers. Paramedic 29 arrived within minutes and advised they had a working rescue. Truck 2 arrived and immediately began to stabilize the vehicle which was in a precarious position on a hillside. Chief 2 (Yingling) established command and requested aviation for a priority 2 patient with multi systems trauma. Command also advised Baltimore County that the incident was Carroll County. Rescue Squad 4 (Manchester) arrived soon after and assisted crews with stabilizing the vehicle and extricating the patient. Command also requested an engine to be dispatched from the Lineboro station to set up a landing zone for Trooper 3. The patient was removed from the vehicle 36 minutes after arrival of Truck 2, and care transferred to Paramedic 29. Baltimore County Engine 432 and Medic 435 were also on the scent and assisted with extrication and patient care. Additional units from Baltimore County were placed in-service prior to arrival once the incident was determined to be in Carroll County. All units began to clear and return to service after about 90 minutes on scene.
