A few minutes after noon, Station 2, Rescue Squad 4, and the Carroll County Advanced Technical Rescue Team were alerted for a rescue involving a person in a silo with a broken leg in the 4500 block of Black Rock Road. Upon arrival, it was ascertained that the subject inside at the bottom of the empty grain silo with a leg injury had fallen approximately 15 to 20 feet from the top of the silo while working on machinery. Because there was easy access to the patient, other units were placed in service, and personnel from Truck 2 and Medic 29 carried the patient out of the silo through a hatch near the bottom of the silo. The patient was transported by M29 to the Trauma Center at Sinai Hospital.
