| On Saturday, at about 6:30 AM, Utility 2-1 and several parents made their way to the Carroll County Emergency Services Training Center with the junior fire company for the annual Junior Day. Junior Day is when the juniors from each of the county's fire companies all get together for a day of education and competition.
This cold and blustery day started with the famous doughnuts-and-coffee breakfast. The activities began around 0730 with an automobile extrication demonstration followed by a discussion and demonstration by the County's Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) team. The juniors then split into groups to rotate through four training stations: Overland Rappelling, Confined Space Maze, Search and Rescue, and Ground and Aerial Ladders.
After everyone's belly was filled with the delicious lunch, the juniors started the inter-company competitions with the Donning of the Gear Race. This led to the Hose Hook-Up and Advancement Race, and then finally the Bucket Brigade event. The final event, the Battle of the Bucket, was done just for the fun and almost every Junior ended up being drenched with water.
Some members of the senior fire companies engaged each other in a few impromptu friendly competitions to entertain everyone.
Despite the frigid temperatures and wind, it was a fabulous day, both for the juniors and the senior members who helped out.
Good job Hampstead Juniors! |
